Suicide Prevention

September 10th is World Suicide Awareness Day and we want to reach out to those who may need help finding resources or would like someone to talk to.

If you are looking for support for your yourself or a loved one you can call  1-800-273-8255 or text SEIZE to 741741. It’s free and available 24/7. They won’t judge, and everything you tell them is confidential, unless it’s essential to contact emergency services to keep you or your friend safe.

According to the CDC, Suicide affects all youth, but some groups are at higher risk than others:

  • Boys are more likely than girls to die from suicide.
  • Of the reported suicides in the 10 to 24 age group, 81% of the deaths were males and 19% were females.
  • Girls, however, are more likely to report attempting suicide than boys.
  • Native American/Alaskan Native youth have the highest rates of suicide-related fatalities.
  • A nationwide survey high school students in the U.S. found Hispanic youth were more likely to report attempting suicide than their black and white, non-Hispanic peers.

Join us at the Out of the Darkness Walk on September 29th at 10am at the Capitol.
