POP This! – How did you know that your first time was the right time? Is there something you wish you knew before you had sex?
In the movies, sex looks so easy and romantic. I realized my first time was nothing like the movies and television shows. My first experience was terrible, if I can be completely honest. I had no idea how painful sex is for the first time. My body was so tense trying to think “be sexy, be sexy”, but I couldn’t. I was so embarrassed because after a few seconds I had to stop, it was way too painful. So much for romance! I wish I hadn’t set my expectations of sex based off what I’ve seen.
I thought the first time was right because I trusted the person I was with. I trusted that I would be safe, allowed myself to be vulnerable with him and we said “I love you” to each other. I thought that was an indicator that he was “the one” and the timing was right.
In my opinion, you will never know when the “right time or one” is. Some people feel it was right at the time, and later get annoyed thinking about that person if things don’t work out. There is no such thing. As long as you are not rushed or pressured into sex, then you should feel comfortable whenever you’re ready.
