The Youth Peer Educator’s were asked: How do you bring up condoms to your partner(s) or what advice would you give someone on how to start that conversation?
What do you think?
Do you have suggestions on how to bring up condom use?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are trying to bring up the conversation on how to use condoms with a partner or partners, it is not always easy.
But if you are in that situation or are just looking to bring the conversation up to your partner(s), just bring it up! Since it may not be that easy to have that conversation, you should think ahead with a response:
Your partner says: “It’s uncomfortable.”
Response: Suggest different brands or sizes.
Your partner says: “Condoms turns me off.”
Response: “Well, not wearing condoms turn me off.”
Your partner says: “If we really love each other, we should trust each other.”
Response: “Because we love each other so much, I trust that we will make sure we are both safe and condoms will keep us safe.”
Your partner says: “Are you nervous about catching something?”
Response: “Sometimes people don’t even know when they have a STD, so it’s better to be safe.”
Your partner says: “I don’t know how to put it on.”
Response: “Here, let me show you.” (You can even put it on orally)
Make condoms fun. There are different sizes, colors, flavors, brands, ribbed & studded, thin, lubricated, etc!
