POP This! – I got an STD

The Youth Peer Educators were asked: If you or a friend has ever had an STD or HIV, what was that like for you or them?

 disappointment

Hello, my name is anonymous.

Why do I refuse to give my name? Because I recently learned that being embarrassed, blushing, romance, and the feeling of being pointed out are close relatives. So once again, hello, my name is anonymous and I had gonorrhea.

For me this was not an experience that I expected to experience. This was not a fun time nor was it helpful to my already crumbling relationship. My boyfriend and I were on bad terms. When any relationship begins to spiral you try your hardest to grasp it. You may try to go on dates again, dinner, dancing, avoid situations that may bring on an argument and spice up the bedroom. That was all me. Me and my boyfriend had been trying and trying, especially in the bedroom. He would flirt, try to get me to blush, do everything he knows I like. It was working.

Then one day, after a romance session. I went to the bathroom. I noticed a very uncomfortable burn. I ignored it. Then at work, I felt an odd wet feeling. I rushed to the bathroom, I was not having a wet dream at work!!! It was what clinics refer to as a discharge.  This made my blush, not from being romanticized but from embarrassment. I knew I was faithful, now I couldn’t assume the same for him. This caused me to look at him in a whole different view. He was no longer my partner. He was now “HIM”.

I won’t bore you with the gory details of my confrontation and I use that word loosely. But he confessed. I walked away. I went and got a Charlie horse to my rear. Then my life restarted. I am now currently in a successful relationship. Having an STD didn’t ruin my life, it in fact helped me. I’m not saying go and get gonorrhea. It was not fun, but also it is not the end of the world.

Thanks for listening or reading  🙂
