Though the first has already passed, many of us are still mulling over what we want to change this year (if we want to change anything at all). For most, it will be rock hard abs, a juice cleanse, or some other goal that may be given up on by January 31st with disgust and a cheeseburger. However, there are other ways to achieve gratification through completing a goal, and still enjoy waking up to a pancake breakfast.
This year, I suggest that if you are going to make a New Year’s resolution, let it be one that strives for self-love. Loving yourself is one of those things that will be easier said than done, but it is also one of those things that will be completely worth it; building a sense of confidence also builds a sense of self-respect, peace of mind, and a sense of contentment (something that took me most of my adolescent life to learn). So, how do you go about it? Everyone does it differently, but the advice that I give to my friends is usually:
- Give yourself two compliments a day, one external, one internal.
- Stop comparing yourself to others—other peoples’ strengths are not your weaknesses.
- Do the things that make you happy, and make you feel good.
- Help someone, whether it be giving someone else a compliment or helping out a soup kitchen, because everyone feels good by helping someone else out.
But at the end of the day, you do you and whatever will make you happy and healthy, because you’re awesome, and happy 2016!
Self-Confidence Never Goes Out of Style
For young ladies, having and keeping self-esteem is tough; especially in our day and age. It can be hard to scroll through social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram without comparing ourselves to other people. Sometimes we wish we could have what other girls have and think less of ourselves.
