Feminism

What does it mean to be a feminist?

Does it mean that you have to be a woman? Does it mean that you bash on men? No to both, actually. Both men and women can identify as a feminist. Both men and women can agree to have equal rights for both men and women. Women should not make less money for the same job that a man does. Women should not feel discriminated against to go to school, join the workforce or even feel forced to be married.

You may have heard the excellent definition featured in Beyoncé’s song called ***Flawless by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, “Feminist: A person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes”.

Believing in gender equality is feminism.

Emma Watson recently spoke to the United Nations about gender equality and how feminism has become something that is negative. She wants to reverse the way people look at those who identify as feminist. Being feminist does not mean that you bash men but to invite men to join the movement to help encourage equality of the sexes.

Emma Watson said it perfectly that men are also faced with gender stereotypes and that; “both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong”.
